Installation

Our attention to detail before and after the installation process, along with the experience of our craftsman, assure that each installation process is a success.

Hardwood floor installation is a kiln-dried product that should be stored in a well ventilated area. In the winter heating should be kept to "near" occupancy levels" before the delivery of wood. Once moisture and temperature levels have reached an ideal level, they should be maintained at such levels during the entire phase of the project.

There are three methods of installation:

  • Floated: for laminates and engineered flooring.
  • Glued: for laminates, engineered or pre-finished flooring.
  • Stapled/Nailed: for solid strip flooring.

Hardwood can be installed over a concrete slab or over an existing floor.

Repairs

Our Admiral installation crew is known for its skills in floor repairs. From one board to several, from a fairly new floor to an antique floor; we go to great lengths to repair a floor. We identify the correct species and grade of the existing hardwood floor. If we are sand a small area of the floor, we will custom mix stain to blend with the surrounding area. Our finished product is proof of our years of experience and talent.

Sanding and Finishing

Our experienced sanding crews know how critical it is to use the proper grit of sandpaper and methods for each sanding job. If our customer wishes to match the stain color of an existing floor, we will custom mix stain to blend with the existing color.

Before sanding an existing floor we first determine the condition of and the thickness of your floors. Strip flooring, 3/4" thick can be professionally sanded and refinished 4 to 6 times. Repeated sanding can wear down the floor causing it to break or reveal nails. If your floors look scratched, have minor water damage and/or deep cuts, sanding and finishing will make a drastic improvement.

The sanding and finishing process:

  1. Determine who will move your furniture.
  2. Install plastic dust barriers.
  3. Locate a 220 outlet or fuse box for power.
  4. Sand hardwood floors with three different grits of sandpaper and fiber screens.
  5. Apply stain chosen by customer.
  6. Apply oil or water based urethanes.
  7. Install thresholds and/or shoemolding.
  8. Hire cleaning company to clean dust from sanded areas.
